The Fish: Blackfish and Cod

Blackfish (Tautog)

Blackfish, also known as tautog, are a popular target for anglers due to their strong fight and delicious taste. These fish are known for their distinctive black and white markings and their habit of living around rocky structures and wrecks.

Blackfish are bottom feeders, primarily eating crustaceans like crabs and barnacles. This makes them challenging to catch, as they often hide among rocks and debris. However, with the right techniques and equipment, catching blackfish can be incredibly rewarding.

On the Sorry Charlie, we use custom rods and reels designed to handle the strength and cunning of blackfish. Our experienced crew will guide you through the best techniques for hooking and landing these powerful fish.

Cod

Cod fishing is a favorite pastime for many anglers due to the size and abundance of these fish. Cod are known for their white, flaky meat, which is highly prized by chefs and home cooks alike. They are typically found in deeper waters, making offshore trips ideal for targeting these fish.

Cod are voracious predators, feeding on smaller fish, squid, and crustaceans. This makes them relatively easy to catch with the right bait and lures. Our crew on the Sorry Charlie knows the best spots and techniques for cod fishing, ensuring you have the best chance of landing a big one.
